A note on evaluations of some exponential sums

where χ is a non-trivial additive character of the finite field Fq, q = p odd, and a ∈ Fq . In my dissertation [5], in particular in [4], I considered more generally the sums S(a,N) for all factors N of p+1. The aim of the present note is to evaluate S(a,N) in a short way, following [4]. We note that our result is also valid for even q, and the technique used in our proof can also be used to evaluate certain sums of the form ∑

Dominating Sets in Circulant Graphs
We give an efficient construction of a reasonably small dominating set in a circulant graph on n notes and k distinct chord lengths. This result is based on bounds on some double exponential sums.
متن کاملExponential Sums over Points of Elliptic Curves with Reciprocals of Primes
We consider exponential sums with x-coordinates of points qG and q−1G where G is a point of order T on an elliptic curve modulo a prime p and q runs through all primes up to N (with gcd(q, T )= 1 in the case of the points q−1G). We obtain a new bound on exponential sums with q−1G and correct an imprecision in the work of W. D. Banks, J. B. Friedlander, M. Z. Garaev and I. E. Shparlinski on expo...
متن کاملA NOTE ON "A SIXTH ORDER METHOD FOR SOLVING NONLINEAR EQUATIONS"
In this study, we modify an iterative non-optimal without memory method, in such a way that is becomes optimal. Therefore, we obtain convergence order eight with the some functional evaluations. To justify our proposed method, some numerical examples are given.
متن کاملVinogradov’s estimate for exponential sums over primes
1Many of the manipulations of sums in these chapters are hard to follow, and I greatly expand on the calculations in Davenport. The organization of the proof in Davenport seems to be due to Vaughan. I have also used lecture notes by Andreas Strömbergsson, http://www2.math.uu.se/~astrombe/analtalt08/www_notes.pdf, pp. 245–257. Another set of notes, which I have not used, are http://jonismathnote...
متن کاملA Survey on Pure and Mixed Exponential Sums modulo Prime Powers
where p is a prime power, epm(·) is the additive character epm(x) = e m and χ is a multiplicative character (mod p). The goals of this paper are threefold; first, to point out the similarity between exponential sums over finite fields and exponential sums over residue class rings (mod p) with m ≥ 2; second, to show how mixed exponential sums can be reduced to pure exponential sums when m ≥ 2 an...
